Quality Care You Can Trust
Laser Cavity Detection
Laser Assisted Early Cavity Diagnosis . . .
More and more patients place value on healthy and attractive teeth. In order to maintain them, the earliest possible care is essential. DiagnoDent helps you with early detection. Even very small lesions are detected at the earliest stage, enabling you to protect and preserve the tooth substance.
The Kavo DiagnoDent is a laser device which enables us to detect the presence of dental decay in its earliest stage.
We used to detect cavities with a sharp explorer-probe. The cavity had to be larger than the size of the tip of the explorer before we could detect it. Now, with the newer laser technology, we can detect a very small cavity on a tooth and restore it with a very small filling. The DiagnoDent emits a laser beam to the tooth. If there is dental decay, the fluorescence would be an altered wavelength, witch in turn would be sensed and interpreted by the DiagnoDent to give out a numerical reading. With the DiagnoDent, we can now detect cavities smaller than the tip of a dental explorer.

How it works:
A laser diode provides pulsed light of a defined wavelength that is directed onto the tooth. When the incident light meets a change in tooth substance, it stimulates fluorescent light of a different wavelength. This is interpreted by the Diagnodent which emits an auditory response as well as a numeric reading.
Benefits:
- Improved diagnostic ability in the fissure (groove) areas
- Even the most minute problems are detected at a very early stage
- Minimally invasive therapy permits small adhesive bonded restorations of good appearance with tooth-colored composites
- Appropriate preventive therapy
- Healthy tooth substance is preserved
- Increased quality of work due to optimum precision
